Tax, Title, Destination and Prep. Tax is sales tax based at 8.75%. Title is DMV fees for registration and tag. Destination is based on the weight of the bike and is determined by the manufacturer. Prep is our dealer fee to uncrate, assemble and perform the pre-delivery inspection on your new bike and is $195-295 depending on the bike.

In the state of California you must ride a 150cc bike or above to be freeway legal although 150 tends to lack the power and top speed necessary for safe freeway riding. A 250 would be better for freeway riding.

Is it true that I need a motorcycle license to drive even a 50cc Scooter?

Yes, in the state of California you are required to obtain a motorcycle permit to legally ride any 50cc scooter and above. A permit is obtained by passing a simple written exam in any DMV office and has some restrictions (no night time riding, no passenger, no freeways). We have free DMV books in the shop. To obtain your full M1 license you must complete a skill test in a DMV parking lot or take a motorcycle safety course. Call 1-877-RIDE 411 or visit www.ca-msp.org for your safety course.

The 50cc has a top speed of about 30 mph but lacks power in the hills. The 150cc has a higher top speed (50-60 mph) and do much better in the hills and with passengers. We typically recommend 150s for those areas. 200cc and higher (up to 500cc) are go anywhere bikes and are very comfortable on the Bay Bridge and the like. Our TGB Europa 400cc has a top speed of 80-100 mph.

Why would I want a larger scooter if a 50cc can do all I need?

Usually people envision using a scooter for specific purpose, such as a short work commute and trips to the grocery store. This, however, doesn’t include the possibility that riding a scooter could be fun!! Pleasure rides could very well involve greater distances, higher speeds, and larger loads- maybe even a passenger. Our best selling scooter are in the 150cc category as people like the extra power for the hills and for faster moving surface streets. In California, 150cc and larger scooters are freeway legal.
